I experimented with this in 2008 and made over $800 from one interview. The key here is to understand a pain point that people are experiencing, interview an expert, and ask the expert the questions that the people experiencing the problem are having. I listened to this, and watched the video interview in regards to your story. Really liked it man. My story is somewhat similar. As a junior I was one of the highest ranked tennis players in Hawaii, and was on my way to a D1 scholarship, and then maybe some pros… but I decided to take a year off to train… and in that year, totally burned myself out by overtraining and drinking too much caffeine. 

Keep your plan simple and stick to it. First years are grueling, 3rd year things start to materialize. Biggest problem I see with today’s generation is everyone is so damn impatient and a bunch of “on-demand” kids. Everyone wants to get rich, famous quick instead of putting in the work. They quit just when things are going to happen for them. #weak.

And yes, if you do commit to something like blogging, or writing and freelancing, you can and will make a living (you could even make way more than you could ever at your day job. That said, no matter how much time and effort you put into things like surveys, paid to click sites and things like that, they are not gonna replace your day job. They are just an attitudinal income generation options that you can use in your free time.

Creating your own food blog, will not only be fun, but done well it should also be profitable. Link your site to affiliate cooking products, sell your food photos, create and sell your own physical cookbook, or launch a cooking app. Equally, you could turn your cooking blog into a membership site. You would then share all your content, including recipes, how to videos, food photographs, and much more, with only your paid up members.

To put it simply, I’m required to scam other unsuspecting people to start earning the commissions. Even if I am to disclose the compulsory up-sells beforehand, I wouldn’t recommend it to any potential customer because this is simply ridiculous.

Be professional. When you submit a résumé, don’t type it in ALL CAPS and please don’t avoid the caps lock like the plague. Know how to use it without looking incompetent. Write in complete sentences with proper grammar. Of course, there will be exceptions, but even with the exceptions, you must keep it professional. You’re building their view of you.
